Fabulous single queer mother, Twinkle, plans on surprising her loving adoptive son, Angel, with a Disneyland trip by finalizing his adoption papers - if and only if nobody claims Angel within three months. But the unexpected arrival of Mara starts to complicate their peaceful life. Shook by Mara's arrival, Twinkle goes the extra mile to prove that she is a caring and capable mother to Angel - resulting in over-the-top hilarious means to assure Mara that Angel is already in good loving hands. As the end of the three-month adoption process comes to a close, a surprising and threatening bond between Mara and Angel forms. Can Twinkle prove that motherhood lies not in biology, but in profound, unwavering devotion?

Losing Your Mother traces a walk the filmmaker took through Mumbai, India in 2023—the same city in which her Nanabapa (grandfather) studied shortly before emigrating from India to the UK a decade after Indian partition in 1947. Gradually, the filmmaker’s images of the city become testament to the gulf between her Nanbapa’s life and her own, as her attempts to align his memories with the spaces she encounters are repeatedly frustrated. Blending narrative, archival footage and objects with home videos shot by the filmmaker’s mother, the film becomes an attempt to negotiate the gaps and fractures which emerge out of displacement, diaspora and generational trauma.

Netflix has acquired Deb Spera’s novel Call Your Daughter Home to develop as a potential series, sources close to the project tell Deadline. Spera is penning the adaptation for the book, which was published by Park Row Books last June. The story is set in 1924 South Carolina and follows three women who have come to a crossroads. The three women seemingly have nothing in common, yet as they unite to stand up to injustices that have long plagued the small town, they find strength in the bond that ties women together. Told in the voices of Gertrude, Retta, and Annie, Call Your Daughter Home is a story about the power of family, community, and ferocity of motherhood.
